Our area has a rich military history. Ede played a leading role during the Second World War. It is known from operation “Market Garden” in which 2,200 Allied paratroopers landed on the `Ginkelse Heide` in 1944. A landmark has recently been placed on that spot, which keeps the memory of this para-dropping alive. In the area there are several museums to visit on this theme, such as the museum ’40 -’45 and the Airborne museum. Finally, during a walk on the Edese heath, you can walk through elongated shallow trenches, which are part of the trench system that once lay here.
